F1 Thoughts From the Crew

There is a crew of us who did F1 comment on it. Why not post your comments on my blog, that way there is a record of the astute observations.

Any comments?

Jeepers, everyone seems shy all of a sudden. :-)

Too bad the broadcast on Fox wasn't in real HD; I'm wondering if they'll do so for the US race? Regardless, Fox was brilliant to hire the Speed team. They're just head and shoulders above everyone else, including the I-TV team (Goodman, Blundell, Brundle).

But, yes, probably the craziest race I can remember. Ignoring the red light at the end of pit lane was gobsmackingly dysfunctional--what were they thinking? Kubie's crash was truly horrific, and it's amazing that he got away with just a sprained ankle and a mild concussion. Kudos to the FIA and their safety program, as I'm sure the outcome would have been far worse just a decade ago.

And Sato's finish? The Fates must have been having a good laugh on Sunday, but I'm quite happy for him. And who'd have thought a beaver would affect the race?

We're quite frustrated that Kimi isn't able to put it all together at Ferrari. Who knows what would have happened had he stayed at McLaren, but they sure seem to have conquered the reliability issues this year. (So, will Williams finally step out of the shadows next? Will Renault ever regain their former glory? (Flav needs to find a Hamilton!) When will Toyota pull the plug, or at least move the team to England?)

Wow,

The guys at F1Rejects.com gave 18 drivers the "Reject of the race" award. The lucky ones to escape were the top 3 finishers and Kubica.

Groundhogs and or beavers have always been an issue at Montreal. In 1985 Niki Lauda saw a beaver on the track and barely missed it. He mentioned this to Ron Dennis, who did not believe him, but the next day's newspaper had a photo of the creature next to Lauda's car.

In the 1990 race Nannini hit something and had to pit to replace the nosecone, and then he slid off into the barriers a few laps later, only to have Alesi slide off as well and destroy the Benetton.

Rumor has it that Nigel was so happily waving to everyone and everything on that last lap of the 1991 Canada GP that a groundhog waved to him, he stopped the car to let the animal pass, and then Mansell couldn't get the car going again . . . . . . .

There's video of Ralf Schumacher (The 3rd best driver in F1!) narrowly missing a groundhog in Friday's practice. Actually, the groundhog stopped in time to let Ralf (The 3rd best driver in F1!)go by and then the animal continued on his way. At least Ralf (The 3rd best driver in F1!) didn't hit the barrier coming out of the pits.

So when did Davidson hit the beaver. When he locked up going into the pits chicane?? Is that why he pitted and the team wasn't ready for him?

Absolutely loved hearing Bob Varsha and crew cheering on Sato when he passed Alonso. That was awesome!

Ahh, the Return of Ronspeak. Gotta love it. Help me, though, which one is Senna and which one is Prost this time????

I liked the article with John Watson telling Alonso to "grow up". I can just see the race later this year, Hamilton leading, Alonso in 2nd, with Alonso doing his constant hand-waving motion and Hamilton just driving off.
